Our Senior students in Years 11/12 attended a workshop by renowned scholar of Qur'an and hadith Dr Mahmoud Hussain, currently visiting Melbourne from Jordan.
The workshop was on the perfection of Surah Al Fatiha, the opening surah we recite in every rak`ah of the salah. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: "There is no Salat (prayer) for him who does not recite Ummul-Qur'an (Surat al-Fatiha)." Our students and attending teaching staff were fortunate and blessed to gain the knowledge in the comfort of our College musallah and practice Surah Al Fatihah with this renowned scholar of Quran.
Doctor Mahmoud emphasized on how it is important to pronounce the letters of the words of the Quran correctly as any change in the letter will change the meaning of the word. He then practiced the pronunciation of the hard letters with the students and recited Surah Al Fatihah with them for perfection.
The workshop was very well received by all in attendance. Comments from teachers and students included: “It was very beneficial” and “while praying Zuhr, I was thinking of the correct recitation of Surah AL Fatihah”, mashaAllah.
