Al Siraat College held its first ever Year 12 Study Camp over the weekend, at Lady Northcote in Bacchus Marsh. Students and staff left after prayers on Friday and returned on Sunday afternoon.
The Camp consisted of general study activities, like Study Skills, Time Management, Coping Strategies with a major focus on Oral skills – conducted by Mr Mohammed Azim, who also conducted the daily Islamic talks after prayer. Ms Naga Thaya provided Chemistry support and Mr Ismail Kullu offered Physics support. I spoke to the students about our College values and Standards of Excellence and the expectations of Senior students of ASC in this year and beyond. Mr David Hally also came up for one night and joined in the activities with the students. Special thanks to these staff members for giving up their weekend for the benefit of our students.
Students and teachers participated in two camp activities, the Giant Swing and Canoeing. We also did a night walk on Friday and had a movie night on Saturday. The purpose of this camp was to get students to: bond with one another, be comfortable with speaking in front of the class, adapt and adjust to a new environment of learning, focus on priorities for this year.
This was also a time for self-reflection and goal setting and to experience fun and study in an environment outside of the classroom and College. The students were amazing in embracing this new venture and willingly participated in all activities. We hope to make this camp an annual outing for our Year 12 students.
