It’s time to get creative!
For the very first time, the Art & Technology Department of the College is offering Graphic Design as an elective to our Year 10 students. This elective focuses on the basics of design education adopting design thinking as a tool to manifest design ideas and concepts.
Since the start of the new semester, students have been busy familiarising themselves with softwares such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. It has been a steep learning curve for the students but it has been great to see everyone giving their 100%.
Throughout this elective, students will be exposed to technical, creative and conceptual skills to create designs that responds effectively to a client’s brief. They will also develop a sound understanding of design theory and practice, and be able to analyse and synthesize information from a range of sources to generate design solutions.
There has been many research that suggests the importance of design education in promoting cognitive ability, critical and creative thinking. It has been wonderful to this selected group of Year 10 students begin their journey in this creative field. This elective is a prelude to VCE subject Visual Communication Design which will be offered at Year 11.
