In this short video, three of our Al Siraat College students reflect on past and current issues regarding racism. The students are sharing their thoughts and educating others about what Islam teaches about racism.
We are very fortunate to be living in a relatively harmonious multicultural society, however, we can see from recent events at how angry and frustrated people have become with racism. We too have a role to play to ensure that our focus remains on challenging stereotypes and hatred in the many forms that it can take.
I would like to let our community know that we are committed to addressing issues which deprive people of basic human rights and dignity. At school we use different opportunities such as through our Values Education program and our talks to students after salah everyday, to address some of these issues and discuss what our responsibilities are in adding to a more just society. Through our interfaith, outreach, and community programs, we hope to unite people through serving common good causes whilst still being true to our identities.
We acknowledge there is still a lot more we can do to tackle racism and discrimination and look towards your support in educating our children in what it means to be a representative of Allah. This may mean that we take out more time to talk with our children about how we treat one another. I pray that Allah gives us the ability to always do what is right and not to remain silent when we see wrong in the world.
I am very proud of the work that has been done by the students and staff involved in completing this production. We look forward to sharing more of these short educational videos with you in the future.
