On 27th October 2023, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Melbourne observed the 76th anniversary of Kashmir Black Day, commemorating the tragic events of 27 October 1947, that marked a dark chapter in the history of Kashmir. This significant day was marked with a special event organised at the Consulate to pay tribute to the Kashmiri people's struggle for self-determination.
The Acting Consul General, Mr Faisal Hayat Khan, conveyed heartfelt messages from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad to the esteemed guests. His words underscored the unwavering commitment of Pakistan to supporting the rights of the Kashmiri people and their quest for justice and self-determination.
The event was graced by the presence of students from Al Siraat College, who played an integral role in the proceedings. Alvia, a Year 10 student, delivered a moving speech in Urdu, capturing the essence of the Kashmiri struggle. Ameena, also from Year 10, eloquently expressed the sentiments in English, reflecting the diversity and inclusivity of the gathering.
Mr Rana Shahid, a respected member of our ASC Community, provided valuable insights into the historical background of Kashmir, shedding light on the region's rich and diverse history. His presentation added depth to the understanding of the challenges faced by the Kashmiri people.
The event also witnessed the participation of local community leaders, whose presence underscored the unity and solidarity of the broader community in supporting the cause of Kashmir. Their engagement highlighted the importance of collective efforts in raising awareness and advocating for justice.
