On Tuesday, 1 April, our Al Siraat and wider community came together to mark the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. Just after sunrise, on a bright yet crisp autumn morning, we gathered for the outdoor Eid prayer at 8am, surrounded by the beauty of nature.
As the takbir echoed across the grounds, the Qari’s recitation of the Holy Qur’an created a serene and reflective atmosphere. The moment was complemented by the sounds of lorikeets chattering in the old gum trees, adding to the peacefulness of the morning.
After the prayer, families and friends exchanged warm Eid Mubarak greetings, appreciating the chance to reconnect and reflect on the blessings of Ramadan.
Eid at Al Siraat is always a special time, and this year was no exception. It was a celebration of both our faith and the bonds that bring our community together.
Student Representative Council (SRC), in partnership with the Community and Cohesion Support Program (CCSP), proudly hosted the inaugural Youth Intercultural Ramadan Dinner, bringing together Year 10-12 students, alumni, staff, and distinguished guests for a night of reflection, discussion, and cultural exchange.
Former College Captain Osama Akkad served as MC, warmly welcoming attendees and guiding the evening. The program opened with a moving Quran recitation by Khizar Nauman (Year 7 Hifz), setting a reflective tone. Mr Fazeel delivered an inspiring speech on the significance of Ramadan, emphasising faith, reflection, and community.
A distinguished alumni panel, moderated by former College Captain Areeba Bilal, shared personal experiences on faith, leadership, and growth, offering valuable insights to current students. Diya Bijoy (Year 12, St Monica’s College) delivered a powerful speech on unity, while Afra Shehzad (Year 12 SRC member) moved the audience with a heartfelt poem on Ramadan’s intercultural significance.
Guests broke their fast together and gathered for Maghrib prayer in the musallah, followed by a delicious dinner. The evening provided students and staff with an opportunity to strengthen bonds, engage in meaningful conversations, and celebrate shared values. The student media team captured the event, ensuring its memorable moments were documented.
The night concluded with a du'a led by Sheikh Waseem and closing remarks from the MC.
This event was made possible by the incredible support of CCSP, the College Chef and Canteen Team for preparing a wonderful meal, the Maintenance Team, Event Coordinator Ms. Ayesha, the SRC, and the 2025 College Captains for their hard work in organising the event. A special thank you to St Monica’s College and artists Mr Ahmed Abunada & Ms Reem Abunada from Gaza for attending and enriching the evening.
The Youth Intercultural Ramadan Dinner was a truly meaningful and memorable gathering, celebrating faith, unity, and cultural appreciation. We look forward to hosting more events that bring our community together in the spirit of inclusivity and togetherness.
