On behalf of Al Siraat College, Ms Tanja Kubitza was invited to attend the 15th Annual Victorian State Parliament Iftar dinner on Tuesday, 27 April 2021. The iftar was hosted by the Australian Intercultural Society (AIS) in collaboration with the Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ros Spence, and Multicultural Affairs Minister Neil Angus.
The exclusive event was held in the La Trobe Ballroom of Melbourne’s iconic Sofitel Hotel and was attended by several politicians, prominent community leaders, academics and changemakers.
The master of ceremonies for this event was ABC news presenter Michael Rowland, with the Welcome to Country performed by Muslim Aboriginal Elder of the Wurundjeri, Uncle Andrew Gardiner. The opening prayer was performed by Sheikh Alaa Elzokm.
AIS President Ahmet Keskin delivered a speech about the importance of interfaith engagement. Keynote speaker of the night was Gender Equality Commissioner Dr Nikki Vincent who gave an inspiring presentation.
The highlight of the night was a powerful spoken word by inimitable artist Zaynab Farah, titled “She is.”
